How safe is the implementation of backups?

Good time of day.

Copy the backup database to Yandex disk using the following script

curl -k-u my_login:my_password -T $full_file_name $remote_path_full_backup

we were confused by the fact that the file for the login and the password explicitly. So I made a little different

curl-k --netrc-file .netrc -T $full_file_name $remote_path_full_backup

putting in the rc file the username, host, password.

We are concerned about the safety of the connection and data transfer curl for authorization.
For example, if you intercept the packets, whether to recognize a username/password or other parties.
Please tell me how to transfer files.

Thank you in advance.
