Can I use AJAX functions not only after a page reload?

Hello!
There is the following code. Using ajax I bring to the page counter downloads php script that runs for a long time before the end of the file list.
Essence: how bullshit works ajax during initial page load or after a reboot, the files appears as it should, but if you do not reload the page several times, often ajax does not plow, though the account file is on (checked).
$(document).ready( function () {
 show();
 setInterval('show()',500);
 });

 function show()
 {
 $.ajax({
 url: "clone.php?host="+"<?php echo $_SESSION[host]?>",
 cache: false,
 success: function(html){
 $("#content").html(html);
 }
 });
 }

Who knows what kind of mystery is this? (first time working with ajax)
