Why can't I configure the virtual host?

Hello,
On a VPS trying to configure virtual hosts. there is Debian.
Doing everything the article here pacificsky.ru/os/linux/67-apache2-debian-8-nastroy...
In the end, when I enter the command
a2ensite domen.ru
he gives me
ERROR: Site domen.ru does not exist!
why can it be?

Solution
a2ensite is simply a perl script that only works with filenames ending .conf
mv /etc/apache2/sites-available/domain.EN /etc/apache2/sites-available/domain.EN.conf

Solved the problem differently, just opened the file with the first host and added back the second host. Rebooted the server and everything works)
