How to make HTTPS request with protection against MITM?

Need sample code for downloading page or a file on https Protocol authenticate that is that the session could not interpose (MITM), and spoof a response. The whole thing will be on Delphi 7 but will be satisfied with C code you can use winapi (Win7+) and/or openSSL DLLs ku.
