What Linux to choose in VirtualBox?

VirtualBox prompts you to install one of the Linux systems. But I do not know what is right for me. With Linux I want to play, not needed for serious problems. The desired Minimum loading on system.(the computer is not powerful Intel Duo 2.80) Program mainly in Python (if it is important when choosing the OS). What would you recommend?

The list of possible:
Linux 2.2
Linux 2.4
Linux 2.6 \ 3.x \ 4.x
Arch
Debian
openSuSE
Fedora
Gentoo
Mandriva
Red Hut
Turbolinux
Ubuntu
Xandros
Oracle

Virtualbox doesn't offer anything, he offers to do the config virtaully optimal in his opinion for this system. Is irrelevant the opportunity to "Linux 2.6 \ 3.x \ 4.x" will stand any modern distribution.

On to play - it is better that OS, which has the most developed community. Now it is Ubuntu.

Minimum load on the system - you can choose the Desktop Environment it's Xubuntu is ubuntu + XFCE.

And you can never put a graphics, any decent IDE is able to connect to the host via ssh and work there. Will code for Linux from the comfort of your favorite Windows/Makosi.
Yeah, in fact it is only the icon is affected. It is convenient to distinguish Ubuntu from Fedora :-) - Paxton28 commented on July 12th 19 at 17:16

Just to play - Ubuntu some xfce (xubuntu), or mint cinamon
Just tinkered in Sistema and explore - Debian
To dull to a good study system Arch, Gentoo
> Dull

Perhaps it was a mistake, but you surely gave him the gist of what will happen if put toys, like juniper.

Now tell me what the Debian-based Ubuntu GNU/Linux differs in outline from Debian GNU/Linux? Right nothing. The only difference is that Ubuntu, as having more than adequate support in terms of time and stability are often used on servers in the last five years than the parent distribution. - Paxton28 commented on July 12th 19 at 17:18
: Can you briefly tell how is it so bad? - Billy_Davis commented on July 12th 19 at 17:21
Arch, in principle, not the distro for serious use, poor batch system, an Amateur approach and kommuniti of the students. It can be used on workstati if you are a fan of alternative sex if you want, what would you do in a day something broke. But if you want working workstation, then your choice will be Debian/Ubuntu, even CentOS/RHEL, but not the distrib from the aging of children. - Destiny86 commented on July 12th 19 at 17:24
: I agree, to compile the Ghent - a thankless task. On the Cox servers Ubuntu/Debian/CentOS. Although every Sandpiper praises its swamp, considering other distributions for OS for Housewives. - Billy_Davis commented on July 12th 19 at 17:27
: I used Gentoo on workstate 2003 2008th, Ghent good use-flags, but to use Gentoo on servers need somebody with brains, which will allocate a separate server under Kruty with the same yuzov are working with the server and catch any of the binary packages. And when arcellinida to seize upon servers and there karachiwala Gentoo or Arch, you can expect trouble. I'm three offices shoveled is good when you come, and on servers Ghent set by the student, in make.conf contemplate ~amd64(that is, unstable branch) and it was all naebnulas year. I want to tear all that off these would-be admins.
For servers there are actual standards, there is no place to type toys Gentoo, Arch or Exherbo. Play with the distrib have on the computer. I over looked the amount of memory consumed by the Alpine due to the use of musl and not glibc, and collected on a second laptop to put Alpine, but that doesn't mean I'll be his someone advise or just drag to the server. - providenci_Treut commented on July 12th 19 at 17:30
: what can you say about ALT-Linux? Is he even viable? - Billy_Davis commented on July 12th 19 at 17:33
: rpm-based, but with apt-get'om, on workstate stepdaughter stood in 2008-2010, the child was happy, everything worked and floated. I do not see in it sense, but it can be useful in certain situations, where it has certification, for example, for Debian and Ubuntu will not be certified by FSTEC, it is not necessary, and Violas for sales need.
PS And, Yes, in the days when I went to Linuxfest at Alta was a great team, with guys at Festivals were fun to chat and drink, not know what happened to the team now.

Well, that is to recommend using can, but in certain situations it is useful. - providenci_Treut commented on July 12th 19 at 17:36
: thank you - Billy_Davis commented on July 12th 19 at 17:39

Ubuntu server 14.04/32
VirtualBox will not install you this system, but will prepare a more suitable configuration.

When I was just starting to pick Linux the recommendation was simple - same as that of the guru which you have kicking issues. In fact, nothing has changed, except that gurus online are gone. And one of the largest communities now in Ubuntu IMHO.
Though for the desktop I prefer Mint.
Mint is the one distro that just tore butovskie copyright, and more recently, was caught distributing images with the Trojans? Bad choice and bad advice. - Paxton28 commented on July 12th 19 at 17:22
... which rukozhopye Ubuntu (normal usability and glitches less). About the Trojans the first time I hear it, and I do not care - nor are they the first and the last.
In any case, look at what I recommend. - Billy_Davis commented on July 12th 19 at 17:25

As they say "On taste and color - felt-tip pens different". Here you can always discuss what's better or worse. I prefer Ubuntu, someone CentOS... Then only you can choose. But still some advice: if the desired interface is not "heavy", then the OS shell, xfce, Xubuntu for example. If the interface is not needed, you can choose a server OS, like Ubuntu Server. Want a virtual development environment, Vagrant and then take any OS from the list.

Take Ubuntu or Xubuntu version 16.
