How to stop the session OpenVPN in ubuntu?

Good afternoon. Connect to the vpn through the terminal.
Thus to stop the session fails.

sudo /etc/init.d/openvpn stop

Errors does not produce, but the ip does not change. To kill the process manually is not an option, as all I want to bind the shortcuts on the desktop.
