MS SQL subquery to count the number of records?

Please help with the query. Don't understand how to count number of records

Need to get the data here in this format:Name, Unit, number of sales a certain status.
Ivanov | Sales | 100

All entities are stored in different tables but are linked by contact ID.

Here is my query:
SELECT contact.Name AS NAME,
department.Name AS DEPARTMENT,
COUNT(SELECT * FROM Orders WHERE Status='xxx') AS MYCOUNT
FROM Contact contact JOIN Department ON department contact.DepartmentId= department.Id
WHERE contact.DepartmentId ='9b90c192-60e6-df11-971b-001d60e938c6'

Solution
Change the subquery to include the necessary connections and conditions (can't show the decision because of the lack of a full schematic).
(SELECT COUNT(ID) FROM Orders WHERE Status='xxx') AS MYCOUNT
