Why use flat wire in solar panels?

Faced with the task to understand the technology of solar cell production.
You need to understand what is a flat wire (PV-Ribbon) and wire.

Anyone close to the process, please enlighten.

Don't know which wire mean, and a flat tape is used simply for electrical connection of individual solar cells within the battery to each other.
1 separate item gives quite a bit of tension - only 0.4-0.5 volt in operation, and batteries often do at 12V, so you need at least 24 of the element be connected in series with each other inside the battery before the output voltage on the outside of the wire/terminals.

And flat(and very thin!) photo elements with flat pads it is most convenient to link just a flat conductive tape, and the contact is much better compared to round wire.
