Instruct on how to compile MySQL

Needed to recompile MySQL for debugging, but because I only recently became acquainted with Ubuntu can't deal with the compilation. I found this article, but I don't know what to do. Have no idea what is config? Where it to write? As of its launch? To download me the source? Maybe there is some kind of manual for beginners like me?

There are step-by-step Assembly instructions MySQL Linux: "Installing MySQL Using a Standard Source Distribution". For the debug version of MySQL should be on 6-th step instead of
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/mysql
Use the command from the article "Compiling MySQL for debugging".
Only one question remains: if you are not able to figure out/googling how to compile MySQL, then why do you need debug version of this database?

bash: ./configure: No such file or directory
README and INSTALL did not help. there is about the kind. tried to install according to the instructions of the INSTALL by adding --with-debug. only got:
WARNING: Could not write to config file ./my.cnf: access Denied <br / > Installing MySQL system tables..../bin/mysqld: error while loading shared libraries: libaio.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
