Why the smoke went from the hard disk?

Till yesterday experience with IDE hard drives I had.
Was with friends. Asked to reset the data from the old hard drive to the new one. Old IDE. Normal Ineta was not, decided to rely on intuition. And she had failed.
On the new motherboard, this port is not found. And why I got into the jumper... In General, I noticed the cord that seems to fit to the middle port on the hard drive. Pulled a "stub" inserted into the port of that wire. Went to smoke from the connectors. Of course, I immediately pulled out, the smoke was not noticed. Quickly I went to the phone, looked about the jumpers. Found out that without the adapter does not fold, and that's where I put it, is not a port at all. Now I sit and think. What have I done? The data on the disk preserved? What can be done?

Solution

The screw (at the moment) 95% kirdyk, the data is 99% alive. To bear in a SPECIAL workshop dealing with the restoration of data. Honestly to tell what it was. In the best case you will find Pogorelov, will replace and it will work. At worst, it might entirely change the electronics screw - in this case, a possible problem for the donor search (disk exactly the same model).

To say "something is impossible", to put in place and to go to drink tea.

It had to be done before you stick a different plumes in obscure ports ) - Chesley_Ols commented on October 3rd 19 at 02:03
I did so :) the Screw of years, probably not less than me. When he finished the 50-gig discs to release? I think he's there for me rather was dead than alive. Tell them to look for the adapter and the person who will do everything. I already a bunch of them all done) I Hope will come across a smart guy who will figure everything out - alfonzo.Run commented on October 3rd 19 at 02:06

Till yesterday experience with IDE hard drives I had.
Here, read this and you realize that old age has come =)

There are 2 solutions to your problem:
1. The advice of distinguished "nerudo"
2. To go the way of the Jedi. I.e. find a controller from the same screw (the radio?) and try to change the electronics on their own. Or dead electronics ring and find that you've burned. Further, the soldering iron in hands and forward. Using this method you will get
a) experience with IDE drives ;)
b) sickly achievement if successful

P. S. the Experience of Amateur radio grows in direct proportion to the burned equipment. Good luck!

And like most recently it was... :) - Chesley_Ols commented on October 3rd 19 at 02:05
"2. To go the way of the Jedi." Not sure that there is no special equipment so it will be easy to profanity. - alfonzo.Run commented on October 3rd 19 at 02:08
he and the Jedi path, hence the force of the vibrations ;) - Chesley_Ols commented on October 3rd 19 at 02:11
> I.e., to find somewhere the controller from the same screw (the radio?) and try to change the electronics on their own. Doesn't work. I changed the cost drives of the same model - not earned. Each party has its own firmware. - Chesley_Ols commented on October 3rd 19 at 02:14
and you can sit more and pruflink? It would be interesting to broaden your horizons in this respect. - Chesley_Ols commented on October 3rd 19 at 02:17
except my story heard another. on restore hit the screw, released for the American market. and we've got entirely Chinese. no matter how much I tried Asian donors of the same model - do not fit American donor could not be found. - Colten_Schuster commented on October 3rd 19 at 02:20
how exactly does it work inside - I don't know - alice_Swaniawski commented on October 3rd 19 at 02:23
if you're curious, googling the word "adaptive". The essence of every "new" screw sutured with your calibration settings in the firmware, tied to the differences of the mechanical part of a specific instance. But such screws went AFAIK, starting with ~120 gigs. So what exactly does the screw can be before adaption. better return to the service, the experience is not to the detriment of the users. - Colten_Schuster commented on October 3rd 19 at 02:26

You can try to find a donor (at a flea market, or at auction, you are in trouble, are sell these parts). And Yes -- to carry in SC if peregory just some resistor/capacitor/transistor, it does not matter if something seriozna -- repair will cost a serious pretty penny.
Well it had to think to push in jumper. Well that even the nurse did not smoke. And where did You get the cable to the jumper fit? I have not seen such. Or was it power Florica?

just wondering how many advisers have tried your tips into practice? there is no point in looking for a donor, you can't just remove the charge from one disk to put on another, and that it worked. - Chesley_Ols commented on October 3rd 19 at 02:07
Not tried it myself, but knew people who did this, and worked. - alfonzo.Run commented on October 3rd 19 at 02:10
