Work with arbitrary tables/data

When designing a new rails application faced a problem that because of the small experience do not know how to solve.

The application consists of 2 parts.
1. Aggregator.
Collects data, cleans them and puts in the database.
How to make this application clear, such experience is already available.

2. The client application.
Must be able to work with the database collected by the first application and to make beautiful reports.
The app we decided to develop using RoR because of its simplicity and to improve the skills.

It is known that when the model was created with standard tools
rails generate scaffold some_model

active record creates a table with the official fields: id, created_at, updated_at, and creates a model file and controller describing the basic functionality.

The question is.
In case the aggregator will put the data in a database which was originally created by standard means of the rails, whether the rails app to correctly work with the data and whether there are problems which are not visible at first glance?

Or who can offer the best solution in this situation?
Thank you.

Problems should not be.
However, it would be more logical for the application to work with REST service on ror.
