Store many TB on the server you can't (and wrong), supported storage.
Number of threads = number of cores, plus a couple of cores for the system and side tasks. It is a minimum.
Yah, do not agree to return the bottleneck is always the hdd, the performance per core is enough for multiple streams at once. - Frederick5 commented on October 8th 19 at 01:56
nas <-> fibre <-> server cluster is no longer relevant? - Isaias.Ki commented on October 8th 19 at 01:59

It is not clear how You imagine it...

Use with one Xeon E5606. For coding it is better to use something like the X5660.
The system is 2 2.5 sas drives in RAID1, which are mounted inside the case.
The 12 baskets of greens in RAID1

Everything works fine. If the reservation is not critical, it is no problem to 24Tb disks of 2Tb.

The case above indicated good. But it is better to take similar, but for 3.5 drives. with the expander.
Roughly speaking the volume of one disk is now about 2.5 1TB, 3.5 4TB drives already there.
Controller type adapec 6405.
Processor purely for recoil xeon 5606 for the eyes. RAM is a good choice.
But you've got to understand that these servers better to take two, because if the disk will fly, rebild will be very very long!
To return eight threads easy to handle. The only need to specify the bitrate to not understand abut whether Gigabit port.
