Solution
will not work so, letter or transparent or with color, even if from S it is possible to cut off B, then M is half background and half color will not work

the picture is not visible, but if you are allocated you need to span, then why not just set this selector opacity: 0.5; or how much you need?

And what's the problem?
The fact that "the Letters "M" and "S" is half transparent.", and that the opacity is not nearly as appropriate here - katherine.Morisset commented on March 19th 20 at 08:51
@katherine.Morisset, the picture is not loaded, in your example on codepen no letters M and S - eloise.Wisoky commented on March 19th 20 at 08:54
@eloise.Wisoky, For this I attached the screenshot, but on codepen just an example - katherine.Morisset commented on March 19th 20 at 08:57

I agree with previous commentators, wrap in span and hang style color: rgba(255,255,255,0.5)

2 times write this text. for the first time under the picture, the second is over. and set the transparency and the white frame for the top
z-index and position absolute to help
