To help deal with ASP.NET?

Began to study asp.net mvc 5 (don't know why honestly, say that Core is much better but in our city 90% of jobs require knowledge of it + ASP.NET Core ).

So, just perusing jobs are faced with the fact that employers specify in the job, like the web, but how the side is doing .NET, although before that moment I knew that ASP.NET and .NET are two different things.

Can sort out? Do you use .NET web and whether it is necessary to teach him to study ASP.NET?
Who .net developer? Still in the web part or not?( I am so confused

Can only teach ASP.NET but it would be weird :)
