File -> Thumbnails
Options -> Load thumbnails from all subfolders
Options -> Sort thumbnails -> By date / By EXIF date is a good choice.

in Faststone image viewer, you can rename(to change the date/time of file creation),
pulling shooting date from exif.(if available)
then the usual method of sorting by file date

Infranview to handle more than 10 000 photos ?
Toster is not the forum to ask a question about the response that you gave, you need not create your answer and add a comment to the answer. Only in this case the author of the reply will see what you wrote. You're lucky I sometimes look through my old answers.

To answer your question - Yes, Irfanview can handle tens of thousands of photos, but this will naturally take time to read each file and load the thumbnail from it. The restriction does not himself Irfanview and available RAM and the speed of your HDD/SSD/external storage, where are the photos. If it will take too much time, you can switch the View mode->Thumbnails View->List, then the files will show the list without pictures. - Mark.Kub commented on June 8th 19 at 17:03
