How to become Linux administrators, and that in this time of require Linux admin?

How the transition to the Linux admin? Where should I start?
Why you personally started and how long was going to become a Linux admin?
And what exactly is now required from a person who claims to be a novice Linux admin, what do you ask at interviews? Are there any books to have a BASIC knowledge(I understand that I will not admit to large servers at once, but there must be something something to start?)

Solution
You should start with Linux installation on a home or work machine and different services based on it - Apache, Nginx, Squid, ISC-DHCPD, MySQL, PosgresDB, SQLite, OpenLDAP, DNS, all sorts of VPN accesses, all kinds of perversions with SSh. This will be a basic set of knowledge.

Also it would be good to find some guru, who for leveling their skills gaining students.

I in ancient times (about 1993 year) admin e-mail to DOS. Then had to connect to Internet, the provider issued a set of floppies with FreeBSD'1.x, and away we go...

Options where to start:
1 work to support the realties of the hosting provider.
2 work kakojnibutj outsourcing firm or integrator.

My job:
1 night duty support small Internet service provider (LAN 10-20 high-rise buildings)
2 there already the day admin - acquainted with Linux: it is a gateway which was distributed online and was even a mail server.
3 outsourcing Galera: firm rowed tasks with different freelance exchanges and distributed to the handful of admins who worked almost for food (here I potato has already become a Linux sys-admins)
4 sysadmin in hoster (shared hosting, vpsi, dedikeyted server) and a domain Registrar
It is the hosting provider, not Internet provider?
And what about basic knowledge? - Nellie commented on April 3rd 20 at 18:41
Now gone are the days when the Internet was distributed via computers easier to buy Mikrotik.
a year in the 2007th it was different.
So the online provider, you will learn how networks and network accommodation, to Linux there are unlikely to be many or just do not.
Hosting provideri usually work closely on Linux - LAMP NAMP, etc. - colton64 commented on April 3rd 20 at 18:44
@colton64, I heard that the hosting provider cannot get there all the seats are occupied, is that true? - Nellie commented on April 3rd 20 at 18:47
It depends on the country city and so on....
Everywhere can be different, you simply podiskat jobs in your city and then you'll know it's true or not. - colton64 commented on April 3rd 20 at 18:50
@colton64, what are the requirements to be a novice Linux administrator for hosting? What you need to know besides the LAMP? - Nellie commented on April 3rd 20 at 18:53
@Nellie, the understanding of networks at a General level, knowledge of a particular panel, most likely.
good to know something about virtualization. - Martina_Luettgen88 commented on April 3rd 20 at 18:56
To apply for such a job should know quite a lot. - trent_Bo commented on April 3rd 20 at 18:59

I wonder how I overlooked...

Came to the office on the recommendation of a friend. A friend famously said "I said you know UNIX. Well, don't know - so find out." However, the vacancy was hacking, about a year and a half was a UNIX programmer. Perhaps this is why I now easier with source-based distrib, even though they are not enterprise at all. And there was not Linux, and FreeBSD.
The result nutrientrich showdown had to be combined with the administrator. I remember on a server stood commercial version of the BSD - BSDi BSD/OS
Then many years adminstva FreeBSD - just bow did not start it :)
Came to another office - and there... Linux :)

You can watch jobs Linux administrators. Just don't look with large salaries.
What is there in the job required? You can make a list of the most popular services at the moment. And start to learn/configure. At "home" server, or you can get a vps is not expensive.

Now on torrents and the "purse" is not a bad video courses for novice administrators, in my time they are not bad helped. But remember, theory without practice is dead.

Came to the office, and there Linux.
Oh, and also, on the home PC now in its tenth year.
Can go to work in any domestic vendor type Alt Linux or Calculate, it's just 100% chance that they become.
My city is not that, there to look for domestic vendors... What about basic knowledge? - Nellie commented on April 3rd 20 at 18:49
@Nellie, regarding the base - do not try to do step-by-step manuals, and it's a waste of time. Read books on specific products - nginx, Asterisk, bash, Postgre. Then there will be understanding.
After that, come up with a problem with them and are responsible. - Eden_Brek commented on April 3rd 20 at 18:52
@Eden_Brek, DNS, DHCP, NAT, and similar fall under this category? - Nellie commented on April 3rd 20 at 18:55
@Nellie, so-so, not really. Too small and rarely used. - Eden_Brek commented on April 3rd 20 at 18:58
@Nellie, well generally as the starting point, only a speck of sand mountain, so to speak. - marco.McLaughl commented on April 3rd 20 at 19:01
@marco.McLaughlwhat you want to say it? - Nellie commented on April 3rd 20 at 19:04
@Nellie, I'll explain. Too easy and rarely where Linux is used as DNS/DHCP. - Eden_Brek commented on April 3rd 20 at 19:07
@Nellie, About the basic knowledge - put their own houses Gentoo.
Once set DE, put an office package and connect the printer - basic knowledge will be enough. - Martina_Luettgen88 commented on April 3rd 20 at 19:10
@Martina_Luettgen88, I will allow myself to disagree.
Anything after the copy paste commands from any blog is not settled. - Eden_Brek commented on April 3rd 20 at 19:13
@Eden_Brek, There is a copy-paste will not do. And manuals to smoke will have logs pagepath... - Martina_Luettgen88 commented on April 3rd 20 at 19:16
