Is there a way to expand the partition containing ubuntu, on the unused space?

Solution
Write down the distribution kit on a flash drive, make a backup of all important data in the system are loaded from a flash drive, go into Gparted and expand the partition. A lot of waiting. Did that, went well, but it's better with backup.

You can't extend the root partition from which you booted. Boot Live and use GParted from there.
