MySQL — how's the caching algorithm?

Hello.
Read here about the fact that you can optimize MySQL by enabling data caching.
Here, for example, I type in console/PHP script SQL query:
SELECT * FROM `users` WHERE `login`='root'
I, for example, will return the result:
'id' => 1,
'login' => 'root',
'email' => 'test@domain.ltd',
'date_reg' => 1231233212,
'reg_ip' => 127.0.0.1,
'auth_ip' => 127.0.0.1,

When I enter the SQL query:
UPDATE `users` SET `reg_ip`='225.225.225.225',`auth_ip`=NULL WHERE `id`=1

These data will be updated in case? Or updates only when I request data using the SELECT statement again?
