C#. How to make label transparent?

Hello! I can not understand how to make label transparent. BackColor in the properties I put the value Transparent, but the label in turn becomes white and the background behind them does not see! How does it perform in practice?
PS For the label I have is a pictureBox loaded with an image with a gradient.
