The Backend of the website on web sockets?

Usually the server part of the site written on PHP. Front accordingly calls ajax requests to the server and receives the response.
Recently discovered something new. Web sockets. I'm starting to wonder.
Is it possible, and most importantly, is it wrong to do the whole backend of the website on web sockets?

It is clear that you can use any language where you can work with sockets. What language is best to use for backend web sockets?

In php you can use pthreads.
But the whole site - why not make websocket.
Enough only the realtime flow to pass inside the websocket connection.
