Is it possible to install macOS backup from MacBook to iMac?

Is it possible to install macOS backup from MacBook to iMac? A few hours killed on creating a backup of the MacBook to put on the imac. But in the end utility to restore from a backup only sees the imac in the list of available. Copies are laid out on a time capsule.
