Why do some services require a passport photo and the cards?

I do not understand why when adding cards to pay for some services ask for a photo card next to the rights or passport. Fraud or real troubles on the security of the service? Is it safe to give these pictures?

An additional measure of protection, services to protect themselves from fraudsters who steal the card data.
Photo they need to make sure that the card holder is you.

If someone will pay for a stolen card, and then the real owner disputes the payment, the service will have to return the whole amount and pay the penalty for the chargeback.
opens the theoretical possibility to the service And to transfer these photos to the service B, which is sacharja map and then "prove" the legitimacy of the left transaction. It is unlikely many will write over the pictures of the card dock only "services And" - Lorena commented on June 14th 19 at 19:19
yeah, maybe
but still need to pass the data card, the card is in fact tied to a particular merchant.
For the security of card data is PCI DSS - Meggie.Kautzer commented on June 14th 19 at 19:22
